# Instruments

Soil temperature probes are typically installed at shallow depths, co-located with soil CO₂ sensors. The stations are powered by solar arrays with battery backup, and data are telemetered in near real time. The rugged design of the probes allows them to withstand extreme weather and corrosive volcanic environments.
