Soil CO₂ stations produce continuous time series of CO₂ concentration at shallow depth. These datasets are essential for tracking diffuse volcanic degassing and understanding background activity levels.

Concentration Time Series

Continuous measurements of soil CO₂ concentration, recorded by Vaisala CARBOCAP GMP343 NDIR probes. Deployed at Okmok (OKCE) and Poas (VPPC).
Soil CO₂ probes were deployed at two AVERT volcanoes:
  • OKCE (Okmok): A single GMP343 probe inside the caldera, co-located with TEROS 12 soil temperature and moisture sensors. Data are hosted by the Alaska Volcano Observatory (AVO) and can be visualised and downloaded from their webpage.
  • VPPC (Poas): A single GMP343 probe at the crater rim. CO₂ concentrations have been shown to correlate with seismic amplitudes, with both increasing in the run-up to elevated activity and explosions within the central crater.
